Darlene Rose

Once upon a time, long long ago, Darlene picked up the violin at age 6. She played it day and night, on her bed, on the floor, under a tree, for her cats, parrot, and anyone who would listen. Then she quit. Dropped it like a hot potato. Why? Because they stopped teaching violin at school where she took lessons with Mrs. Wilcox. So here she was, 13 years old, no music in school, not receiving private lessons, no youth orchestras to attend, she was sad and lost.

So one day around mother's day, that same year, dad took Darlene and her sister to Miracle Music to buy mom a piano. Now please note, mom did not know how to play a piano, nor a violin, not even a kazoo! So the piano arrived and Darlene sat down and started to play. Also note, she never played one before that day. Her heart filled with music again.

When she got to high school, she took guitar lessons, and Mrs. Wilcox was her guitar teacher, and was in shock that Darlene wasn't playing violin any longer. So she invited Darlene to attend workshops at the Junior College for Suzuki Violin. All the students were 3 - 8 years old. Now, here she was, 14 years old, playing Twinkle Twinkle with 3 - 8 year olds. So embarrassed, Darlene practiced every tune in the book, dropped out of the Suzuki program, joined the high school orchestra with Mrs. Wilcox, sat assistant to the Concertmaster and finally began private lessons.

She graduated high school with honors, went on to university at the Conservatory of Music, University of the Pacific. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education. Went to work with Mrs. Wilcox, and later moved across the country. She taught instrumental music in public schools in California, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Michigan, and Washington state for over 19 years.

During all those wonderful moves and transitions, Darlene taught private instrumental music lessons to children from ages 4 to 75. She even taught her mother how to play the piano, and the recorder.

Teaching is near and dear to her heart. She never forgot that feeling she had playing under the tree. She continues to teach her love and passion for music.
